The Canadian skeleton team have been absolved of accusations that they deliberately manipulated a qualifying event for the upcoming Games, which allegedly denied rival athletes a chance to secure their place.

US skeleton veteran a five-time Olympian alleged the team from Canada of withdrawing four of its six entered athletes from a recent event in New York. “The current IBSF Rules allow member nations to pull competitors from an event at any time,” stated the International Bobsleigh & Skeleton Federation (IBSF).

Following an investigation, the federation announced it would take no action, dismissing the complaints as there was no breach of its code.

Canada's Explanation

Reacting to the claims, Bobsleigh Canada Skeleton stood by the withdrawals, pointing to competitor health and the need for rest. The organization stated that the individuals pulled had already raced multiple times that week and the decision was “correct, transparent and in keeping with both athlete welfare and the sport's fairness.”

Representatives of several affected nations had previously expressed “deep worry” about the qualification process.
